The weekend: Bryan-san, Jaguars, and then hunting in Limpopo.

by MigueL Harker on June 17, 2009

Saturday we were off to Bryan Dukas’ dojo at 5am. The trip was so bad as there was mist over the road which had us driving 30km/h for almost an hour on the highway.

We got there in time & Bryan had coffee waiting for Sherilee & I.

We had an awesome training starting with makiwara!

Then we got into some hardcore kihon (try to follow this):
Obviously we broke it up into isolated sections, but trust me the pace we worked at was insane!

After this we did some kihon kumite Yahara style… I have mentioned it previously on this blog so I won’t retype it…

Bryan’s class was so awesome, I felt like I was in Japan! He gives a truly accurate presentation of pure Yahara Sensei & Isaka Sensei karate. His personal ability is far beyond many people’s dreams when coming to putting Karate-No-Michi values into action!

After class we had our traditional coffee outside with Anita Dukas joining us, because Sherilee wanted to give them a gift for the expected baby.

On our way home to Pretoria we hit some heavy traffic. We then prepared for Roodepoort. Morgan’s class was typical intense WKF kumite. Wesley enjoyed it, but Shez took strain as her knees are again giving her problems.

Sunday we were off to go hunting in Limpopo Province. Firstly I had my car serviced the previous week, but ended up giving me so many problems!!!

Anyway, we followed the inaccurate directions & eventually found the place, having signs changing, estimated distance terribly incorrect, names of town changing & also parts of the road just not existing for about 10m or so, on a number of occasions.

We found the family & had brunch at 4pm in the afternoon. The farm was beautiful. Really worth it!!!

The hunting weekend included the following, sitting around & just relaxing! Obviously there was hunting & also family having a few too many drinks, but hey, it is the Knox family.

We at a stage had sprayed Doom into our room & had 20 wasps fall to the ground in a matter of 10 minutes. I was not impressed! In the early hours of Tuesday morning we heard a leopard coming through the camp & found its tracks the following morning, so we were all happy we had an early night.

The staff at the farm were so helpful & always wanted to work even though there was no work.

Our room was the only one with no hot water, but all was good as we just used Vincent & Bev’s bathroom.

Anyways the trip back was hectic with my car giving more & more problems.

Anyways, this weekend is the KAGANO seniors’ champs.

Go take a look at their new website: www.karategn.org
