My kid brother is a world class piano virtuoso. He was the piano guy at the Playboy Club in Phoenix, Arizona when he was 14, when there was a Playboy Club in Phoenix, Arizona.
I’ve often told him I’d give my life to be able to play like that.
I did, he replies.
And I also point out that I’d do anything to be able to play piano like that. Except study and practice.
Which brings us to Shotokan Karate.
Which is a series of exercises. Followed by another series of exercises. Followed by more demanding exercises. And after that, there are several exercises that you try to learn.
A lot like piano.
My brother is a world class piano virtuoso.
If Shotokan Karate is piano, I’m about ready for a recital with my parents and the neighbors from next door.
The good news (or the bad news) is that I have an exam coming up soon. And if I pass the exam I’ll get some additional exercises (or more demanding variations of the current exercises).
Which is similar to what happens if I don’t pass the exam.
But for some reason, I really like doing those exercises.
