Academy Honbu Instructors Training

by MigueL Harker on July 21, 2009

Friday 17 July the Karate Academy Honbu Instructors got together for a training at the Waterkloof dojo.

Sensei Soon only arrived from Bali (Sensei Richard Amos’ wedding) the day before.

The theme was speed!!! The Academy is renowned for the technical detail that we are constantly working on, but we some times fall into a trap… we end up training too slow, so Friday we worked on speed & a lot of it. Ensuring the link between defence & counter was that of the same energy!

We worked gedan-barai gyaku-zuki both sides, then age-uke gyaku-zuki, then shuto-uke… eventually adding them all together.

We then moved onto basic kumite:

Jodan attacked with a move to the side (as if doing kihon ippon soto-uke defence) with a teisho-uke defence & massive drive with the rear leg & body into a gyaku-zuki counter. Over & over, faster & faster, harder & harder… MORE MORE MORE!

Typically this class was one that made us work our behinds off.

Thank you Sensei Soon & welcome back to South Africa.
